Promoting A Blog Using RSS Feed Syndication

Blogs have several advantages. It is easy to set up and it is easy to add content. A variety of plug-ins are available free of cost that can be used for special functions. And it is easy to set up plug-ins.

Another unique feature about the blog is that it can be syndicated using RSS Feed. There are various types of RSS Feed readers that can be used for reading content of the blog without going to site of the blog. The subscribers of RSS Feed are notified immediately when there is a new posting on the blog. This way the subscribers are kept updated about any new entries.

The RSS Feed can also be used for promoting the blog. In this presentation we will talk about some of the methods for promoting blogs using its RSS Feed.

One common method of blog promotion is pinging. There are many blog directories where you can inform by pinging whenever a new post is published and the visitors of those blog directories will get to know about the update.

The pinging process can be automated. This automation can be done in 2 stages :

1. There are sites that send pings to many other sites. For example pingomatic.com and pingler.com sends pings to many blog directories. You need to inform only pingomatic.com or pingler.com about any new post and they will ping all other sites.

2. Sending information to pingomatic.com can be automated, so that whenever a new post is published, pinging is done automatically without your intervention.

With these automations, you can just write a new post and promotion will be done automatically.

Pingler.com also has paid service at nominal monthly fee. In paid service you have to submit your blog(s) just once and pinging will be done automatically at regular intervals.

Another site that offers free service for promoting your blogs is ping.fm. You will need to sign up for using this service. It will distribute your RSS Feed to many social media sites. You will need to get membership of these social sites also, but just once. Thereafter the RSS Feed you submit will be distributed to all the social sites.

Feedburner is another site that offers many useful features. It is owned by Google, therefore if you have membership of any Google service, that email ID and password can be used to access your Feedburner account.

One of the services available with Feed burner is that it publicizes your blog in number of ways. Some of the features that are easy to use are:

Headline Animator is one of the ways to publicize your blog using Feedburner. You can create RSS Feed Box using Feedburner that will display clickable titles of your latest blog posts. You can put this Feed Box on any webpage or blog that you can edit. There are options to customize the appearance of your Feed Box by selecting colors, fonts, size and other details of your Feed Box. Headlines of your last 5 posts will be rotated in the Feed Box.

BuzzBoost -- This is one step further to Headline Animator. When you activate this feature, your entire posts are available in the RSS Feed Box using JavaScript code. This will be available to your readers right on the page where your Feed Box is placed without the necessity of going to your blog. There is also and option of opening the Feed Box in a new window.

Email Subscription -- This is useful for your readers that prefer to get your new posts in their email box. Feedburner will give an HTML code for email subscription form or link that your can place on your blog. The interested readers can subscribe to your posts by entering their email address.

Socialize -- You can link your Facebbok, Twitter, and other media accounts to your feed so that whenever there is a new post, the information will also posted on your social media accounts.

Chicklet Chooser -- Feedburner can provide you button called chicklet that your readers can use to subscribe to your feed. The chicklet can be placed on your blog and it stands out prominently drawing attention of the visitors of your blog.

Apart from helping you to publicize your blog Feedburner can also give you data regarding number of subscribers, number of views and clicks, and number of times your post has been used for purpose other than viewing it on RSS Reader.

To conclude, blogs are easy to set up, maintain and promote automatically.
