It's been a long time since I've seen this but I believe that was one of the Rock's players, one of the four horsemen name, Jim Crowley, I could be wrong. But the story goes that Knute told them that Billy was on his death bed and just wanted to see the Irish beat a superior Georgia Tech team. After beating their brains out, they arrived back in South Bend and they say little Billy, healthy as a horse greating them........Love Knute.
