One kind of a statement is "One voice is louder than one million silent?" Of course it is it's also louder than 'one' person silent! LOL! Our vote is something they can't take away, but who is truly benefitting from the the two mine! The investor and the owners of the infrastructure are the winners in this whole scheme! They will make billions and we'll make a few millions - is that the kind of future/destiny we want?
This power line is only capable of powering two major projects. in this case, it will power two mines already in our territory, Red Chris and Galore. Any future projects in our territory will have to be negotiated with our leaders and will go to the people for a vote again. This is self-determination and control of Tahltan territory.
The issues that I have with this vote is that the terms of what is being voted on are not clear and that this requires a much larger conversation then a yes or no vote. The larger agendas that are associated with the NTL are not being disclosed, such as the future 'clean energy' projects that a reciprocal line will not only bring energy into an area - but will also extract power - which means further Hydro energy capture infrastructure (ie: damming, run of the river)
There is no such thing as 'clean energy', to create hydro power - if this is what they are terming 'clean energy' requires alteration to rivers. The cities within this province need to create their power generation models within their own infrastructure and stop trying to capitalize on the exploitation of pristine wilderness, our whole general public needs to wake-up and realize where our Provincial and Federal Governments are trying to lead us.
The NTL contract has already been awarded and is set to start construction this spring - this to me is a message saying that our vote does not count. The process of Land Management and Gov't to Gov't negotiations should not hinge on weather we vote yes or no to development within the TAHLTAN Territory.
This video does not allow people to decide anything, it is a video telling people to vote "yes." It is selective information and it's sad that Tahltans can't hear be well informed about the other side of the coin. If we don't know the negative sides of the agreements how can we make an informed decision? The most educated Tahltans I know that have seen this agreement do not agree, and for different legitimate reasons! But these voices are not being heard. Be a man and post this.
