Toyota was able to do most of the R & D for the Prius and still put out a product that is in the low $20,000 US price range. This car can be modified and go farther on battery power. GM is for GM and is not in the market to change the car industry. The fact is it will be behind all other car manufacturers and now others are coming to market with green cars. The season of change is on the horizon, if GM doesnt make affordable cars now many will flock to other car companies. 41,000 is to much

fuck this shitty ass car. Just buy a normal car. that new nissan is like 10k.

Do you know how long the battery will last? The 40 miles you get should last at least 5 years (75,000 miles) before showing signs of depletion. That's on pure electric range alone.

@musubi69 its the same as normal gas cars except its in the front not the back. coord hanging over the car? not if their smart and pull up on the left side. you dont pull up on the right side if your gas tank is on the left do you?

@PhatH0tG33k average car cost $3000 a year min to run on gas $3000X10 years?= $30,000 the you BURNT UP didnt get any depreceating asset for. $30,000 that you donated to the already rich oil companys? $ 30,000 that you could used to buy a brand new car with an 8 year warenty.... if the cost of fuel out ways the cost of a new car wouldnt you be stupid to keep your current car?

@m715fm In the future when tech prices come down the cost will also come down. $41,000X10,000volts= alot of $ for gm to make a better design and a lower price for 2012-2013

Man, they have 3cyl diesel VW Lupos in europe that cost under $15k that get 70mpg. Why don't they bring them over here? Fuck the volt
-
The fact is that you could buy a less expensive car and probably buy gas for the lifetime of the car with the money from the price difference.Yeah Yeah i hear you say but what about the environment. When your average person has to chose between that kind of money and the environment, money will always win.

GM has priced out 90% of humanity. $41,000 is a price that middle America will not be able to afford even with the government rebate. At this price few people will buy and may end this car line. GM should price the car at the mid 20 thousand dollar range and then GM will rise up and be a leader again. An affordable green car for the people.
Why is the charging plug-in on the left side of the car? If they ever get those street charging stations that means people would have to have a cord hanging over the car... The Nissan leaf plugs in on the front, so it will work parking on either side of the street. The volts sorta big...or big looking.. and frankly its kind of ugly.. it looks like they tried to hard to make it look cool and now it just looks sorta silly and cheap...
