A short video of the first Chinese Nuclear test, "Project 59-6".

The 596 test was the culmination of 9 years of nuclear weapon development. The name of the test indicated the date Soviet help ceased. October 16th was the date chosen for the test. The day before the test, the order ("shoot the basket") had been given to insert the uranium component and initiator into the explosives assembly, the bomb was now partially armed. Only five people were allowed into the underground assembly complex.

With the bomb partially armed, all unnecessary personnel withdrew to shelters far away from ground zero. Only a few personnel remained at ground zero to conducted final arming and preparation of the device. Before midnight on October 15, the entire device was assembled.

Early in the morning on October 16, the device was moved from its assembly silo to the shot tower. The device was 6.4 feet high and 4.8 feet in diameter. The bomb was put on a handcart and two men pushed it gently to the base of the tower, where it was placed on an elevator. Custody of the device had been transferred in writing to the tower crew.

The August I Film Studio documented the hoisting of the device to the top of the tower. Once the device was installed, readings were taken from various instruments located in the shot cab. The detonation caps were placed into the explosives assembly. 50 minutes before zero-time, five personnel ascended to the top of the tower to fix electrical connections and make final checks.

Once the bomb had been completely armed and ready to fire, the last of the tower crew retreated to the test site control room 14 miles from ground zero. The device was fired at 7:00 on October 16, 1964. Specialized aircraft penetrated the cloud for sampling, one of which was piloted by a woman. Rockets were launched by the artillery unit into the cloud to collect radioactive samples. Some personnel drove to ground zero to personally collect samples shortly after the explosion.

A direct call was sent to Beijing were Mao Zedong personally received the news of the successful test. Later in the day, in the Great Hall of the People, Zhou Enlai publicly announced the successful detonation of China's first nuclear bomb. Several hours later, Radio Beijing announced the news to the world.

  • China has 180 nuclear warheads ready for deployment, and 240 total (a fraction of USA's 9400/Russia's 13000)

There's been close to 2000 tests of nuclear weapons. Mostly in the desert and ocean. Despite what you may think, contamination is far from lethal and dangerous. Radiation will only harm people in an immediate vicinity of the blast, and the farther away from point zero it gets, the more it decimates.

    Thus no immediate danger.

  • Idiots who are not smart, the Project 596 is Chinese. Also, all explosions that have simular megatons/explosion radius, like the Fat Man and 596 have simular explosions, since both are atomic too.

  • @ZemogTorrents everything u said is absolutly true, but im sure if more tsar bombs were detonated it would fuck earths shit up

  • @acid15

Yeah Even though the clock at the beginning is Chinese, The Bomb is Chinese, the Chinese people there are Chinese, those Trucks which were there were Chinese the plane was Chinese, AND the Tank Was Chinese. Besides that it was SO American!

  • warum gibt es zu diesem video keinen ton?

  • @DMAT96 you ARE stupid because yes they do test them fool...so dumping waste from nuclear power plants isn't going to contaminate the earth?

  • @christophersteal in the old days, they though the nuclear bomb was just a big gas artillary weapon and that was why they had people running in to the mushroom cloud after it exploded with gas masks

  • Is there anything the Chinese can't force children to make :D
