  • It is not a performance nor a show, it is an improvisation demo... Not pretending to do any tricks, just musicality and material you would use in a salon. Subtlety is in the eye of the beholder.

  • @dchester2 I am simply trying to make a point, which is, Tango is a form of dance as well as being 'tango'. I find people who see this rubbish dancing as 'sophisticated social tango' very superfacial and usually turn out to be quite bad dancers who dance 10+ years and till can't manage to walk with the music.

  • @dchester2

Excuse me, That is very insulting.... Please read my comment carefully, I am not talking about the difference in social dancing (And who said social dancing and performance dancing have to be hudgely different?).

  • mushroomboy, there is a big difference between performance tango, and social tango. You don't appear to know anything at all about social tango and what the essentials are for it.

  • Sadly, a lot of people see tango just as tango, they forget that it is a form of dance as well. What is the essentials of good dancing? Being expressive, musical, elegant body work (not just feet) and creativity. To be honest, this couple(also a lot of 'mastreos') don't have any of these essentials. People hail after them just to pretend they are sophisticated, and in some sort of a scene.

  • You probably didn't watch P. Rodriguez properly... First, his musicality goes away closer to the middle of the song. Second, he merely has a contact with his partner. And he seems to have problems with his back... Rodriguez is essentially a nuevo-dancer, never mind a sort of a close embrace. For good salon tango, besides Eric, you can try to find Tete.

  • I think they are trying to show how a tango "should" be danced in a milonga in buenos aires.

An image important to transmit in europe and the states. I think that to "just managed to have a decent walk" is the hardest part of tango. It just takes time to realise that the 4th sacada is much easier than walking a tango with the embrace and the music.

  • I didn't mean subtlety is not good. But, this couple, their musicality is just so rubbish... superficial understanding of the music and their bodies are stiff. It's sad to see such self branded 'maesteros' have so many royal followers like you guys. Tango will not live on in the future with more and more 'help' from these people. Have you see Pablo Rodriguez & Noelia Hurtado?

Watch that and learn how a performance can be a dance purely of the salon, social dancing nature.

  • Well said Levensregt...I agree with you. This was no showboating just pure, simple unadulterated Tango...too subtle for muchroomboy.

Have just had the privilege to attend a weekend workshop run by Maestro Eric Jeurissen he's Tops

  • No, no, mushroomboy. You should watch more real Argentine tango beforre you write something down like this. I've seen a few saccada's thoughbut clearly too subtile for you. Giro's were there and a volcada running into a barrida. Great.

Eric and Rebecca already were teachers when you were peeing your dipers I guess? If not you must have watched way too many bad dance shows. These teachers are reputed and admired in Buenos Aires as well as in NY.
