The fourth division of the ninth circle of Hell, the frozen lake of Judecca, where the forever entrapped satan lays, the most treacherous souls of time in his three mouths, Brutus, Casius, and Judas, for whom the circle is named. The canto further describes the descent down the leg of Satan, and the following Ascent, into the river Lethe, from the river Cocytus. This marks the end of Inferno, and the beginning of purgatorio.
