  • Awesome! instead of understanding fresh prospectives of our brothers in Christ lets keep making witty remarks dismissing them from the body and these adorable cartoons which grossly oversimplify their views and combat things they don't say. Instead of joining the conversation and making use of new resources of communication lets call others heretics because they don't use the same methods of dated language or share our addiction to articulation. Nothing says unity like division eh Piper fans?

  • @0707868 Respectfully, sir: "Things they don't say"??. Have you actually read any McClaren or Bell? The early apostles implored us to run from false doctrine. This whole idea of a "conversation" is exclusively a Western indulgence, mostly because it doesn't cost us anything to be Christians. Persecuted Believers would immediately decry our "conversation" because they would recognize much of it as heresy. There is no honor in a "fresh perspective" if it is counter-Biblical.

  • @sessiondrummer1 heresy to be. In the Old Testament false teachers were put to death. False teachers are not people who interpret scripture differently than you or those who you disagree with. A false teacher is one who knowingly teaches a gospel contrary to the one of scripture. McClaren may qualify but not the entire movement. Lets take 'heresy' more seriously

  • @0707868 Thanks for your response. Yes, we should be careful in using the word "heresy". Western Christians are so Biblically illiterate that we don't see heresy when it's staring us in the face. You and I agree that the Church could do better on poverty and justice. But, those issues don't abrogate the bigger issue of false doctrine. Piper and the like rightly decry the hi-jacking of those issues by Emergents for the sake of looking relevant. Why lure folks into a false faith?

  • Just what the world needs...another Christian movement.

  • @sessiondrummer1 persecuted brothers from over seas. Their biggest complaint was not our diversity but our controversy. The world they come from requires Christians to love and respect each other so they are confused by childish attacks like this video. I do not agree with the authors I have mentioned nor do I agree with Piper, Packer and that gang. I urge caution to their readers as I would caution you in using terms like 'False Teachings' Read Jude and not how serious an offense it considers

  • @sessiondrummer1 While this video was not I appreciate that you were respectful. Yes I have read McClaren, Bell, Hipps, Rollins etc. I say "things they don't say" because no one in the movement would dismiss the issues of the world with an unrelated comment about love as this video shows. In fact like them or not Bell's church is doing more to help the issues named than most of his critics know. As for you logic about persecuted Christians. I have had the privilege of meeting several of our...

  • @sessiondrummer1 Although this video was not I appreciate that you were respectful I will do the same. Yes I have read McClaren, Bell, Hipps, Rollins and I have also read Piper, Packer, Macarthur etc. I say "things they don't say" because no one in the emerging movement would dismiss the issues of the world with an unrelated comment about 'love' as this video portrays. In fact like them or not Bell's church is doing more to help poverty in third world countries than most churches I know of Cont

  • @scottiedo85 Okay I agree with you to a point. But Osteen and the prosperity movement are not involved in the emerging conversation. The emerging movement is not a convention or a 'church' its a conversation taking place with representatives from all denominations.

Also as a side note American Christianity suffers not from a lack of doctrine but a lack of obedience. Our problem is not false teachings its false character. You can be doctrinally sound and be a disgrace to the gospel.
