Because Allah is Beauty.
-
Dear Khawajaahsan,
Sufis have been dancing to Quranic verses for centuries. Usually in private and hidden locations all over the Islamic world, from India all the way to Turkey. The aim of Sufi dancing is to raise the consciousness of the dancer as well as the viewer and bring them closer to the ecstatic love of God. The manner of her dancing enhances Kathak, not diminishes it. and therefor we are all enriched as well. No need to curse someone just because you do not understand.

She has spoiled the beauty of Kathak...There is no balance in her dance movements...

Kathak, from Katha, was narration of love of Radha for Krishna, sung & danced by bards, minstrels. It is essentially a temple dance, invocation to the God. Mughals dragged this to the courts, to appease the King in 16th century. Sufism came much later. Not many cultures accept dance & music either as a ritual or as a normal expression. Often it is a sin.

So many of you are totally missing the point. Kathak is a combination of Hindu and Muslim elements. Nighat has just added another element. That of Sufism, which is also of Indian Origin. Sufism is the Muslim equivalent of the Hindu Bhakti movement, both used dance as a way to express the ecstatic love for God. Instead of nit picking, we Indians should embrace this aspect as well. It is another facet of dance that enriches Kathak, and broadens the spectrum and potential os what artists can do.

Making no sense out of this dance. Kathak is much more then mere waving hands. It seems something stupid is going on. Actual Kathak is basically Indians Kathak Pakistanis can only wave hands and arms where Kathak involve all body parts. This woman did the same thing. Nighat has nothing creative to show.

What about the dervishes? Sufis have been expressing joy and love for Allah with movement for centuries. I don't see why she can't do the same thing.

this is sufi music and sufis have throughout centuries praise Allah through music. There is nothing wrong in thi.

all u narrow minded people need to really grow up... if she is dancing to it and u find it offensive then perhaps you should critisize the person who has sung it as well... please get your facts right before comenting on art.

Perhaps she dont has mature knowledge about the Riligion, thats why mixed it with a thing like Dance.

quiet true adnan, this woman has insulted both the religion and the beautiful Kathak. No wonder you'll soon here ghunghroos in the backdrop with so-called *liberals* like her dancing to quranic verses. may she die before that
