@sunsetreptiles if they take the 64 they'll be fine, which is the main road to the grand canyon anyway.

i got flagstaff at 1 pm fire looked small by 3pm i was in prescott and it looked like a volcano erruption

Thanks for the video--Those of us who love Flag but live in Tucson have been wanting to see some. It makes me sick to my stomach that part of my beloved Flagstaff wilderness burning.

The South Rim of the Grand Canyon can also be accessed via Hwy 180 along the west side of the San Francisco Peaks, so visitors can use that alternate route while Hwy 89 is shut down.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. It seems like everyone here knows one or more families directly affected by the fire and who have had to be evacuated.

It was very quick! The satellite view shows the first hint of smoke at 1PM. A half hour later it was raging, and by 4:15, the smoke plume had reached the four-corners.
