February 27, 2009 Press Conference held at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon. The conference included ODFW (Oregon Dept of Fish and Wildlife), U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers, CRITFC (Columbia River Intertribal Fish Commission), Washington Dept of Fish and Wildlife) and NOAA Fisheries - National Marine Fisheries Service.
Pinniped predation on salmon and sturgeon has not been natural since the construction of the dams where fish get bottle-necked into fish ladders where they can be preyed upon.
I wonder how people would feel if the tribes were allowed to hunt sea lions...

Anything to avoid laying the blame where is belongs..on mankind. They keep using the term..endangered Salmon..they are endangered due to over fishing, and habitat destruction. Period! Fishermen are allowed to use Gill nets, which can't distinguish between hatchery fish and wild fish.

What on earth! I live in Portland and saw the lame-ass "coverage" of this press conference on the "news." They said NOTHING about ANY of this! Why were those reporters packing up their cameras and moving away, rather than REPORTING on this??? These people asked good questions! Why wasn't this a story? Why did they only report what the government wanted them to say??? Criminal.

The government is so corrupt. Their response to anything getting in the way of making more money is kill them all

Heres an idea. Leave the sea lions alone. To kill any animal for your greed is ludicrious. Oh so the seals eat salmon, and you want to eat the salmon yourself. Heres an idea, go vegan and you'll do fine and no living being will have to loose thier lives. Dispicable. And any vet who says oh, go ahead and lethally inject them or a gunshot to the head, shouldn't be licensed as a vet. This disgusts me.

What I'm hearing is these fish are endangered "no reason given yet" 2:25 min... so the need to euthanize sea lions is most appropriate? WTF, stop over fishing for nothing more than greed -- oh and profit of course - because if there was no profit, nobody would give a damn what those sea lions ate. The fact they don't want cameras speak loudly...13% human fishing vs. 4% seal fishing.... no balance here.

By the way, they are going to kill them in secret so that the public will not see the carnage. If there is no problem with their program, why hide it? Why not film it and release that film to all interested parties? Because they now there would be an outraged public outcry. YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK FOR A FEW FISHERMEN.

Oh, don't get me started augustvegan! I saw some videos of the slaughter of some innocent salmon by the sea lions and I'm convinced that what the world needs is to exterminate any predators. Then, when the world is only filled with herbivorous creatures, there will no longer be pain and suffering in the world.
