This is almost always completely wrong. o The issue: Microsoft fooled people into buying Upgrade media with special pricing o Now they're acting like these people should have known better o I'm here to help. (And so is Ed.) o Upgrade media (Retail) vs. other disc types - I believe they are all identical - The product key is the difference o $29 Student download - Upgrade version, oddly in a different kind of packaging * Windows 7 and the wider ecosystem o Windows isn't just Windows o That's why I cover more in my book o And now Microsoft has what it calls "Signature Software" * LA dumps Microsoft for Google Apps * Office 2010 public beta in November * Twitter coming to Microsoft, Google search o Facebook coming to Microsoft * Critical tech o We use and even recommend hardware and software on an ongoing basis. But only some of it really sticks. Here are the ones that have made the biggest impact in the year or so (for me): Windows Home Server, Kindle, iPhone, Last Pass o Do you have anything like this? Hardware/software you just can't live without?

Tip of the Week * Stay secure - People have misunderstood my advice about just using common sense to be secure online. Here's what you can do. Install good AV. Enable automatic updates in Windows. Keep up to date. Be smart online. It doesn't have to be difficult.

Software Pick of the Week * Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool - The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool allows you to create a copy of your Windows 7 ISO file on a USB flash drive or a DVD. To create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive, download the ISO file and then run the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool. Once this is done, you can install Windows 7 directly from the USB flash drive or DVD. NOTE: The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool seems to have been pulled by Microsoft since it was discovered it was built using source code.
