If campy ever fails 99.9% of all time it is either because of mechanic error in installation, or because you're mixing parts with Jap parts. Either way, do not deviate from campy by "bastardizing" it will lessor quality brands. HENCE, THIS IS WHY YOU PAY MORE FOR CAMPY -- CASE CLOSED.
Moreover it should be noted that 42NM is the "minimum torque" setting, rather if you go to the campy web site you will see the range is 42~60NM. Meaning, it should be taken up to or perhaps to 57.6NM for assurance that the hearth joint is sufficiently tightened. I list the 57.6NM figure as to not over-tighten, hence this is exactly -4% from 60NM to compensate for the +/- 4% inaccuracy of many torque wrenches.

The Campy UT system works perfectly on the vast majority of bikes. In fact, all riders and mechanics I know are unaware of this "problem", at least on current bikes.
For excessive side play to exist, either or both of the BB and crankset widths must not be to spec.
When a bike has presented with this condition and the BB width was within spec, did you try the crankset in another frame?

Something is not right here.

This "fix" should only be a last resort.
