@Raizo1988 read AdmiralGST's comment. I'm surprised that SOMEBODY else knew how a 1911 fires...

what if you drop the gun?

@rustycan420 Comment continued: You are sooner to be struck by lightning three times in a row before a 1911 will fire itself. As I am sitting at my desk typing this, I have a loaded Springfield Armory XD-40 chambered and with a full magazine and I still haven't had the gun go off on its own despite being chambered 24/7 and being carried in a holster and even dropped. The XD is similar to a 1911 in what has to happen for it to fire minus the external thumb safety. Carrying chambered is safe.

@rustycan420 Okay, I'll explain what has to happen to a modern 1911 in order for it to fire. Most have a firing pin safety that stops all movement of the firing pin unless either the trigger is pulled or the grip safety is pressed. If the safety is on, the sear is blocked from moving preventing the hammer from dropping and the grip safety prevents the trigger from being pulled. In order for a 1911 to fire, the grip safety has to be pressed, the trigger has to be pulled and the safety is off.

@AdmiralGST IT IS NOT SAFE!
-
@rustycan420 Hah! Yeah right. How is it not safe? Would you like me to explain what has to happen for the hammer to drop on a 1911?
-
