Requirement for 6th Gup Green Belt

Julie Boente and Evan Buck, both 1st Dan Black Belts at Brown's Karate Academy in Carlinville IL, perform a self-defense move against the front head lock.

Self-defense vs Front Head Lock

When performing this self-defense technique, the key points are:

1. Punch to the groin to loosen up the opponent

2. Use both hands to split the opponent's grip

3. Step out to the side and hit the opponent with a round kick to the solar plexus

4. Set the foot down and elbow the opponent in the back

5. Side kick behind knee to drop opponent, then flee or finish opponent with another technique

  • Needs a bit more from the attacker. If you can walk out of a headlock that easily in training, it's not going to help you when it's applied for real.

  • This video is for demonstration of the movement, it was not filmed as part of an actual class.

  • Do you have any more info on your system, school, teacher, etc?

  • Very nice but just one piece of advice. What we do in American Tang Soo Do (Chuck Norris system) is that after we finish our self-defense or one-step or three-step techniques we move away from the "attacker" and into a fighting stance. But other than that very nice.
