Which pattern are you talking of?
I believe that it is more than an assumption to say that this song is about the monotony inherent in show business.
Even if you ignore the identical sax riff beginning and end, the melancholic way in which he sings the entire song, and the final "on the road again" at 4:08 where he is nearing his breaking point, one has to only glance at the lyrics to see that this is a song about show business repetition--not anything else.
This song has a consistent theme.

No disrespect, but HOW did you find Metallica's cover first? This has been one of classic rock's biggest songs for decades. Bob Seger is a living legend for all of the music he's performed. I just don't get it.
