the crescent palm shirt was produced at a garment factory inside the largest free trade zone of the philippines, located in rosario, cavite. i spent there one month in april 2008 and documented the production of the shirts in the factory and the living conditions of the laborers. it is a portrait of the workers, the factory and the urban situation in relation to the free trade zone, ten years after Naomi Klein researched there for her book NO LOGO.
You can watch interviews with Cecile Tuico from the Workers Assistance Center or Mayor Nonong Ricafrente, who appear also in her book in the chapter "The Unbearable Lightness of Cavite" and I revisted all the sites in Rosario that she mentions.
The video material comes as an archive in 36 chapters.
The videos are without comments. I leave it up to you to make up your own opinion on the information and to evaluate how the interviewees reflect their own situation or the topics that they are talking about.
