The Greater Easterhouse area is traditionally the epicentre of hydrant vandalism in the UK. Typical stats include Easterhouse crews being called on to close 90 hydrants within 2 days. Add to this a particularly high level of deliberate fires, attacks on crews, hoax calls and it is clear that Easterhouse needs to develop unique solutions to engage with young people in the area and help improve the lives of all of our community. With firesetters as young as five, we wanted to reach as many young people as possible.
The concept was simple: to throw open the doors of Easterhouse fire station and offer young people the opportunity of training with their local firefighters. When we were children the idea of training in your local fire station was a dream. We were sure young people today felt the same. Our plan was to make the dream a reality.
