Lena sings an excellent live performance of the hit song from the musical Cats, on the Des O'Connor show in 1985, and is then interviewed by Des.

  • This is Lena in Diva form. Just absolutely fantastic and no sour notes unlike Susan! Just the real deal,

  • @rure1968 She was convinced that she had a mental problem - she called it

"static" a fog which blocked the way forward. A manifestation of depression maybe? The operation seemed to have positive results. Lena ate food in front of people for the first time in 20 years, but she was not strong enough to deal with infection. The hospital should have improved Lenas health/strength before the op. Lenas father said she would have put on weight before the op. WHY did the hospital not wait for this? Why?

  • What a talent and such a beautifull person, how can they go so wrong her and Karen Carpenter the world is so much worst with out you both. What got into your heads.

  • Lena looking very well and singing beautifully. Miss you so much sweet girl. Wish I could have helped you. You needed to know how really great you were. RIP LENA. LOVE YOU!

  • Fail to see why we have to compare Lena, Susan and Elaine and have one or more of them come up lacking. They are or were , each great singers in their own right. They all have different voices and I don't see why we can't just enjoy the beauty of each voice without trying to choose which was better. Love them all and they are all unique in their own way.

  • Hmm. Des seemed a bit less reckless than Terry Wogan; didn't make any wisecracks, and that is a good thing. Lena did an excellent performance as usual and was very beautiful. But I do miss that Wogan interview from 1985; seen parts of it lots of times as I felt that was the peak of her beauty. Whatever happened to that video?

  • I think Lena would have given Elaine Paige a run for her money had she not been struck down by Anorexia. Her rendition of Going Nowhere is the most emotional piece of vocals I have ever heard.

  • I just read that Lena passed away in 1999. I didn't even know where she was or what was happening in her life.....May she rest in peace. She was a huge inspiration when I was young...I think we were around the same age and I always knew I would sing and Lena thank you, you are a beautiful Angel. Thank you for the memories.

  • lovely singer,,,great voice,,died to young at 35, with no money,,living on state benefits,,got arrested in 1999 the years she died for shop lifting,, she stole a small pack of jelly,,the owner of the store dropped all charges,,she was only 4 and a half stone,,i guess no one reconised her,,she must have looked like a little girl again,,,,poor thing,,great voice,,with a passion when she sang''that many of us love!!!! and the power!!! wow,,, you was amazing singer RIP and thanks for the memory xxx
