A saltwater bottle capacitor, neon sign transformer, spark gap, and a small coil of wire make up my first unsuccessful attempt at a Tesla coil, but it sure made for an interesting display!

The arcs are hard to capture with the video camera, they're very fast and the whole system put out enough RF energy to actually shut off the display on my video camera while it was filming.

  • The bucket has saltwater in it, and immersed in that saltwater is a glass bottle with more saltwater. The saltwater is highly conductive and with the glass between the 2 bodies of water, it forms a capacitor.
