2001 Honda Civic EX center panel removal - change climate control panel - replace bulbs

How to remove the center dash panel from a 7th generation Civic, change the climate control panel, and also how to change the light bulbs. DO NOT USE METAL TO REMOVE PANEL, IT COULD CUT YOUR DASH! I don't have an expensive set of trim removal tools, so used a plastic ruler.

The panel around the cig. lighter is built as 1 piece into the center console. It makes it a little more difficult to get out. Other than that, they are identical. I tried to use your post until I got out to my car and was like wtf...

@Wagner027 I guess it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I wanted to change the climate control panel and this center piece had to come off in order to do it.  I don't know what you are trying to change, so can't really answer your question.

Don''t!!! use anything to stick in between the dash and the center module, run your fingers little bit further into the dash(where you removed the two 8mm screws)from and right where the metal ends push from the inside out and the bottom part will pop out, no tool needed and then just gently undo the top, save dash and time

Is that part with the knobs - the "climate control panel" - also known as "a/c control head?" Just wondering as I was quoted $400+ to replace the control head and I think I could do it myself. Also, do you really have to unplug everything if just replacing the part with the knobs?

at 1:25, you said not to use metal because it can ruin the piece. Is there a way to replace the center dash plus the whole soft part dash? What is that whole soft part called?
