I'm singing lead here in a rare moment, however Julie was the true voice of this band. Just taking a chance folks might enjoy some live outdoor concert videos from WAY back in my past. We were only 18-21 year old kids at the time, and though it wasn't Madison Square Garden we felt like Rock Stars! On a tonal note, this is just a couple years after first getting my original '59 Gibson Les Paul. Darn I should have kept that small box Marshall 50, it was stellar! Playing & singing "Purple Haze" & "All Right Now" and this was at the "Reston Festival" in N. Virginia. By the way if you ever see this Marshall amp I'd love to buy it back SN# 5297A.

RAVEN was:
Glen Kuykendall - guitar
Julie Jewell - vocals
Ronni Roth - drums
Jeff Cody - bass
David Wright - soundman

  • Man I love yer tone its way soulful! I liked the break between purple haze and free! Thats the only cover of Edgar Broughton I ever heard in my life! Love in the Rain. What your lessons run?

  • My online lessons via Skype are $20 for 1/2 hour or $35 for an hour. Thanks for checking out the video.

Actually I had never heard of "love The Rain" until now (thanks for the heads up) which obviously has much in common with the ending section of Purple Haze! I wonder which came first, and/or perhaps the 1, 2, b7 chord progression was stolen from something even older...

  • Is the bass on?

  • I was attenuating my amp down about 6-9db, which is a net of only about 6-12 watts total power. Also Marshall cabs are quite directional. The bassist had a 100 watt amp. My guess is the bass was carrying mostly off stage so it sadly wasn't in the PA much, and therefore was barely in the audio feed to the video recorder. I wish I could fix it in the mix but not possible after the fact.

  • @originalDimer - Man, did he NAIL that dude in the head with that stick!!!!!!! AWESOME! ;)

  • Yeah who knows Hendrix was great at coping other songs morphing em to stand out more and throwing em at the audience. Great price on lessons Love the playing keep it up!

  • Great stuff. Pretty darn good for teenagers/early 20s. You gotta love the 80s and the hair bands they generated.

  • I can hear the bass (in my mind!).

Serious geetar and might I add serious vocal from you Glen.

    A cracking outfit.

  • Dude your hair was awesome!

  • This is great, these are 2 of my favorite songs, and that les paul is awesome.

  • It looks like the bass player was kicking ass, too bad!
