dont think of it as if he doesnt miss a note, there are no right or wrong notes, its only wrong if the player perceives it as wrong, but if the player believes every note is the correct note, the possibilities are endless. for example, alan holdsworth doesnt use scales, he simply plays what he feels

@ledzeppelin1161 That is so true man, I hate it when kids say he hit a wrong note, their is no wrong note in music, I sometimes noddle for hours ever night, mainly trying things in a different key to add new flavors, as i don't sing it makes no difference what key I am in, I don't have to worry about playing a piece in a certain key to match my voice as I don't use it,

@ledzeppelin1161 He does play in scales, it's just not a conscious effort. Technically everything we play is in a scale, even if just the chromatic scale - what 'feels' right to almost all of us is usually in a scale, that's what scales are based on.
