Un-boxing videos are great because it shows a potential buyer exactly what they are getting, i got a lot out of this video and i hope to get one of these cameras soon.

not exactly true. megapixel does matter. that being said, a good lens does go farther than megapixels, but thats not to say the 6.0 mp sensor on the d40 is a big weakness, cause it is. I would see if the d40x is being sold on ebay if I were you (unless you already bought the d40)

and also, if you're a beginner buy the d40.. you'll find the d80 complicated..

Megapixels don't matter as much as the quality of the sensor and especially the lens. (and of course the photographer's technique). A bad lens with 12 megapixels will give worse results (much worse...) than a great lens with 6 megapixels.
