This is the second part of the Colony demonstration. This was a very early realtime 3D FPS/adventure game. This technology was used to build a virtual set used in making the movie "The Abyss", as well as being the basis for developing Virtus Walkthrough.

  • Thought of porting this to the iPhone? Retroware is hot right now.

  • @mgabrysSF

Actually, yes. I have all of the code, but would need to revamp the UI. Interestingly enough, I don't have the map editor anymore, so I can't edit them - though I can load them.

  • Thanks! It was fun writing it. Maybe I will do another one someday.

  • Man, I had such trouble with that game. I'm not sure I ever got out of the ship. It was really tough, although I'd love to try it today. I think I still have my IBM 5 1/4 floppy version.

  • This looks amazing for the time it was made! I've been interested in 3D graphics on computers like these, as it looks impressive to see what they can do.

  • you done a great job

  • @davidasmith3d Maybe you could recreate the game in a modern engine?

  • Amazingly smooth 3D - you came up with some brilliant optimisations.

  • This was THE MOST favorite game I ever had on my old Mac Plus. Thanks for sharing to the world David! What I wouldn't love to is go back and play this again and actually finish the game! But alas, I'm not sure where my code sheet is anymore.

  • "Get a job, move out of your parent's basement!" :)

Not sure if that was in all versions, but I found it in the Amiga version.

  • Hi David - thank you for this. I played this on my Mac SE back in 1990 for countless hours - loved it. It was by far my favorite game on the Mac for years. Thanks for sharing your behind the scenes commentary.
