I found a 2 1/2 pound weight at the scrap yard and it inspired me to try and build a model engine. I made a pattern for the base, cast it in aluminum, and machined the other parts. I made up the design as I went along. I was fun to figure it all out and I got more practice casting and using my lathe and mill.

  • Awesome. What medium did you use for the mold for the casting process. I have used oil and cement because it can be used over and over.

  • @johnsaintwillie Green sand - just clay, sand, and a little water.

  • i thought i was doing pretty good building 2 boats, but that is way cool....

  • @marksalot2116 Thanks, it was fun to build.

  • I love the simplicity of your design! There are so few parts I almost can't believe it. But at this scale I guess there really isn't a need for as many parts as the real thing. I bet it would look stunning if you used multiple engines configured in a radial pattern! That would look awesome!!!

What was it that drove you to build this thing in the first place? But, GREAT WORK for whatever reason that drove you to do it!!!

  • @DrGoodwrench64 Thanks for the comment. Simple is always better. I wanted try out a different valve actuating method. and practice my metal casting skills. Mostly I did it just to have fun! I like to figure out how to build things instead of just buying a kit.

  • I think you just make a new type of valve probably not used in steam engines, but I'm no expert.

  • Fantastic engine!

  • This is quite horrid music, as it sounds like the noise from an old fashioned steam hammer. But in this video, it seems quite appropriate.

  • I LOVE IT wile i do have the ability to cast i have found it easer 4 me to find parts theat were manufactured and then modify them for my own needs cheeck this out BTW how much press did u put in to make it run?? =3-

  • Enjoyed your video. Built a rotary valve engine from john-tom.com plan site. "Scraps and Solder Become an Engine. I enlarged mine double sized and used home cast flywheel and base.

  • Nice work man. I'm interested in buying this off you. How much?

    Thanks
