Golibar Slum: Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao

The residents of Golibar Slum in Mumbai successfully resist the demolition of their homes on the 24th of November, 2010.

They have investigated and alleged numerous frauds and forgeries committed by the builders Shivalik Ventures in partnership with Unitech Group, who are redevelopers for their slum as per the Slum Rehabilitation Act(SRA).

Contrary to popular belief, the Slum Rehabilitation Act does not benefit the slum dwellers of Mumbai. It has instead helped to institutionalize oppression.
We forgot to mention that Lehman Brothers had invested 750 crores in the project before they filed for bankruptcy.

Unitech, the second largest real estate developer in India, has a partnership with the Shivalik ventures for this SRA project. The competitors of Unitech are trying to malign the image of company by spreading false rumors. I even suspect that the competitors are fueling the “Ghar Bachao Andolan” by Medha Patkar’s NGO. Constant efforts are also being made to pull down Unitech’s stable market position. I am amazed at this clear cut sabotage from the competitors of Unitech group.
