At UNT's MathQuest Center, students receive the bulk of their mathematics instruction in a computer lab where they will learn mathematics concepts and have the opportunity to do their homework in the lab with easy access to help from MathQuest staff. MathQuest students also participate in experiential learning activities in which they role play the part of a team member in a mathematics consulting firm and solve real-world math problems.
A team from the UNT Math Department led by Dr. Neal Brand and also consisting of Mary Ann Teel and Marc Grether worked within UNTs Next Generation Course Redesign™ Project, in conjunction with a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, to plan and create the MathQuest approach. Dr. Phil Turner from UNTs Center for Learning Enhancement, Assessment, and Redesign is co-PI on the TCRP grant with Dr. Brand.
