Sufism is the Arabic name for Darvishism, which predates Islam. Zoroastrians believe that you are rewarded in this life by seeking asha with your good thoughts, words and deeds, thus those who gained spiritual or physical wealth thought that they were closer to Ahura Mazda. There were those however go spiritual walth only and go for the reward of after life, thus they invented darvishism which is the original tradition of monkhood.
