A protest over an elementary school near a coal preparation plant led to 12 arrests at the state Capitol in West Virginia on March 16. Protesters want Governor Joe Manchin to call for a new school in the community for Marsh Fork Elementary School students. Manchin says it is a local matter, and urged the Raleigh County School Board to put the issue to a countywide vote.

yeah, this is real bad. i actually used to go to that school.sludge is NOT the only problem now. they just finished putting a coal silo right behind the school. if something were to happen, and it would fall, may God have mercy on whoever lies in its path. other concerns are rising, such as coal dust going on and into the school. If you were to go to that school right now, you could take your finger and rub any window sill you wanted and it would be solid black... coal dust.

None of this would have happened if people didn't care more about their paychecks than poisoning their neighbor. None of this would have happened if the DEP were allowed to enforce state law without worrying about THEIR JOBS because of corporate political corruption. None of this would have happened if West Virginia would have never whored itself out to the coal industry. This wouldnt have happened if Don Blankenship wouldn't have done everything in his power to strip the union of its power.

Getting a new school now! Many miners had to die and national attention be focused on their plight, but Marsh Fork is FINALLY getting their school. God Bless these brave and upstanding citizens. And, SHAME, on our law enforcement and government.

There once was a program to train rats to do police work but it failed. There are some things a rat just won't do.

Its common sence to be ahead of the curve in WV and everywhere - many will suffer even more if they dont start getting other employment- ECT many will suffer cause of the polution - if you have seen the movie coal country one estimate is I think over 500 die each year because of coal- right now I fear we are all behiond the eight ball not ahead of it

I agree its gonna happen. No doubt about that. But not "very soon" as he said. Thats all I was talking about. Within the next 5-10 years you may see a slow decrease in coal mining productivity. Because as time goes on people are going to start finding new ways to provide power. I just dont think its anywhere in the near future that coal will be a thing of the past. I agree that Coal is NOT a clean way to produce power. But for now and the next 10+ years it will be the #1 provider...
