This last Saturday was RPO Day at Illinois Railway Musem in Union, IL. The museum ran a passenger train with older heavyweight coaches, powered by Chicago & North Western SD40-2 #6847, which made for an interesting contrast. The Railway Post Office car was expertly staffed by volunteers, and actually did process mail that day. Anyone who wanted to send a card or letter could do so via the RPO and have it cancelled there. Here is the train being pushed by the C&NW diesel, showing the mail drop-off and catch from the mail-bag stand.
