Forty years ago, an army deserter fired at a motorcade carrying Soviet Leader Leonid Brezhnev into the Kremlin in Moscow. The assassination attempt failed and was hushed up, but the authorities could not conceal the extraordinary story.

  • Why does Breznev always looked and sounded like he was drunk??? Was he always drunk before he had to do a speech or was there some other reason for his alcohol like speech???Perhaps braindamage by stroke or poison???

  • @TalksWithDirt You're right my friend.

  • Gosh, the blonde commentator is the most beautiful I have ever seen. Ever.

  • Velká škoda, že se to nepovedlo.

  • Stalin wasnt t russian, he was only georgian

  • @mantegna1506 she was smiling to me not to you

That's not exactly 100% true either. There has been no communist society, any country claiming to be Communist never actually got past Socialism. The only time Socialism 'worked' in the USSR was during Stalin's period, because Stalin exerted that much fear over the country that things happened. When the fear levels dropped after Stalin, the stagnation began to creep in.

  • In English, how is the would-be assassin's name written? Any biography books in English or Russian? What was the officer's job in the military service?

  • was the assassin jealous because brezhnev praised stalin in 1965 for fighting germans in WWII, and killing and risking 20 million civilian deaths. was he a soviet WWII veteran?

  • Yes I remember learning this as a teenager. As bad as that was, it was a step up from just shooting him in the basement of the Lubyanka. That the man got a trial and even a defense atty, and lives a free life shows that the USSR, and now Russia are at least making progress.
