  • clara bow's acting is so interesting here. she's acting like she's still in a silent movie, of course. i like it. it's affected, which is how i imagine all flappers acting - very modern, very conscious of herself and those around her, how she appears. grand gestures, every one a star in her own personal success story. of course, it's tragic, and makes all of the hedonism and confident abandon all the more alluring... in the face of disaster, still dancing the night away.

  • Thank you so much for posting this! It's fun watching the beautiful Clara make her way through her first talkie. MGM gave their star Garbo two years to prepare, but B.P. Schulberg at Paramount gave his star one week! She thought she was horrible, but audiences loved her as always, and you can see here she actually was fabulous! The great icon of silent films shows here what a lovable talent she was. Hooray for The Wild Party! :)

  • Her voice wasn't that bad as they said. Something else brought her down. Too bad. I just loved her.

  • @hellcaddie2002 that was her first sound movie, and that's why she acting like silent movie actress

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS so much for uploading all this movie. It's not often that one can see a Clara Bow talkie! In spite of her own personal tragedies, she was truly one of cinema's most charismatic stars. The camera loved her & she obviously had FUN performing! I only wish she'd found as much success in her personal life as she had on the screen! CHEERS! :-)

  • @ClarasBeau It wasn't technology that ruined Clara; it was Clara that ruined herself. Her fear of the microphone (as well as her own voice) was one factor playing into her fading away from films. If you read "Runnin' Wild" by David Stenn, you'll see how tortured she was from the start. Even before she was born, she had all the odds against her. To make it as far as she did and with such wild success, it was amazing. The fact that she was able to express such raw emotion was rare indeed.

  • I have to say that after giving the matter much thought, I'm afraid that technology ruined her. If you look at her silent films (Check out "clara bow color lost" on a YouTube search, and be prepared for a jaw-drop!), you'll see what I'm talking about... She was a mega-star in the silents, and though she was successfully able to make the transition to the talkies (as you can see in this clip), it just wasn't the fun any more (for her)... Still, the MM of her time... What a star!

  • I LOVE YOU.
