what I'm wondering is if I have to replace my disc drive...would I still be able to play my PS2 games. I suppose PS2 games are read and emulated with the Emotion Engine inside? all I know is I have a 60gb and I ain't giving it up for shit.

oh my! i thought u mean driver as in drive rlike in programs within pc... driver of video card ect... hahaha so it is the blu ray driver. aka the hardware.
ok can u help me what model i need for a 40gb fat ps3?
-
the blu ray driver is the hardware. change it! :)
-
oh.... i never thought of drive problem. i thought tis hardware problem. how to change driver? plz help. apreciated.

jus a FYI, all computers are supposed to have an OS to operate. PS3 isn't different. So, if the driver stop reading, it is likely to be the blu-ray driver. The laser power has been fading and initially it stops reading Blu-Ray because it needs total power, then with a lower power it is ok for reading other medias. Now that it stops at all you should change your driver.
