People don't understand that some species are on the brink of extinction due to elephant overpopulation. That is why they have to be culled. Its still cruel, but for the sake of the other animals, I think its definitely reasonable.

@Kiwiguy416 many reasons. Some religions in Africa are against contraception. Contraception is expensive from the point of view of poor populations. Having more children offers economical benefits to many poor families in Africa (extra pair of hands for work). With such a high child mortality rate, more children means the likely hood of a few surviving to adulthood to take care of their parents.

Why is it that there is no contraception introduced to keep the human population down in Africa. Why is it in those countries it is somehow the god given right to keep having babies. Why is it then that the rest of the world is then expected to pour millions upon millions of dollars into food aid for a people that add absolutely no good or contribute nothing to the economy. The world has gotta get it's shit together and face up to reality that over population is a big a threat as climate change

To everyone saying humans should be culled instead of elephants: A) Humans already are culled. If you're just now learning about Elephants getting shot, then you might be a stranger to quiet, violent cesspools of the world. B) Hitler enacted efficient human culling, and look what happened to him. He chose some poor qualities to judge on, sure. But death and suffering is a part of life. You get to choose between hunter, hitler, or behind-the-keyboard-good-for-n­othing. I chose hunter.

@lmo61210 Yes, They do for Bison at yellowstone they sell them to farmers so its not lethal but it is necessary for them to kill a small number every year(50-100 tags are issued I think) on the elk refuge to keep them at a sustainable level otherwise they will have a few slowly, painfully, helplessly starve to death

I first heard about elephant culling while reading Zoo Story. I never even knew this existed! This just screams hypocrisy to me. Does Yellowstone do this too?

With all the wealth in the world this should not even be a problem. Maintain the park areas for the elephants. Every country in the world is responsible for this not just South Africa.

there is no good excuse for this, it is sick and sickening. Cull humans. F the tourists, F the local ppl, F the gvot's, F money, F science, F the human brain, it's done good things, and horrible, evil things. F our ego's!!!!!!!
