I love the photo at 2:50 - I just love it. I showed it to my mum and she said in shock - "My God....she had legs!!!" Oh, RIP La Stupenda - she now exists on another plane where, hopefully, the haters do not tread :)
@Eiswirth I don't in any way want to be annoying, but I have to say that, as great as the records are, there was something beyond this in the voice in a theatre. Every year when she came back to New York, I would hear her voice and say, "oh my God, that's right, that sound has a golden sheen to it which you don't hear on the discs. Try to remember it." And the voice also existed in three dimensions. On a great phrase, it sounded as if it was surrounding you
What a beautiful tribute, and what a beautiful selection of some of Joan's greatest moments. I think there is nothing more beautiful, more mysterious, than the opening vocalise of the Lakmé Bell Song..and then followed by the utter enveloping warmth of her "Vilja-lied". Joan's voice goes straight to my soul. I miss her so much, but the joy and the tears that she has brought me are what makes life living. The greatest. Ever.
