India launched this hospital to meet the health needs of the Tamil civilians escaping from the grip of the terrorists. It is a gift from India for the benefit of the Tamil civilians. Many of the escaping civilians have suffered injuries. The Hospital operating close to the Pulmoddai coast, grants emergency treatment to them. The civilians after being granted initial treatment by Naval doctors, are being directed to this Indian Hospital. Dr. Vasanth Kumar apprised Basil Rajapaksa of the services discharged by the Hospital on behalf of the Tamil civilians. Mr. Rajapaksa secured a detailed report of the patients who had received treatment from the Hospital. Patients are being transferred to other Hospitals from this Indian Mobile Hospital, which has modern facilities including an Operating Theatre. Indian nationals are serving in this Hospital. All facilities including medicinal drugs are being supplied by the Indian Government.
Basil Rajapaksa praised the services discharged by this Mobile Hospital. He said India after identifying the daunting task confronted by the Sri Lankan Government provided the medical team and the Hospital. He said this fully fledged Mobile Hospital was successfully operating.
Indias High Commissioner Alok Prasad, Eastern Governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama, Trincomalee District Secretary Major General T.T.R. De Silva and security officers joined in this inspection tour.
The Indian High Commissioner said this hospital is truly a partnership between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Government of India. With the combined of everybody concerned, it has been a remarkable success story. All these facilities were created within three or four days, and it has advanced facilities such as an operating theatre, an ICU, and Xray Unit and a Lab. Its all available to the civilians who are coming out of the No Fire Zone. He said he is very happy to say since this hospital has been set up it has catered to all civilians who had been evacuated. He praised the programme mooted by the Sri Lankan Government for the benefit of the civilians.
