  • @seanredsky I don't consider the word costume as derogatory, but simply a word to describe a colorful, ornate piece of wardrobe. I consider an old-school Japanese samurai outfit as also a type of ceremonial costume (and I'm Japanese). If I flip out every time someone calls me an oriental, whether PC or not, I've got deeper issues than saying that I'm defending my culture. I think at the core of anyone who gets upset over stuff like that is more about being defensive and insecure.

  • @yamsack1 It may have been a misunderstanding. There are many ignorant people who'd rather mock our culture than learn about it. The person with whom you were speaking may have believed you were attempting to elicit a response by making a statement which you already knew was inappropriate. If you didn't know, now you do.

  • @seanredsky Thanks for the info. But don't you think sometimes folks are just a bit too overly sensitive, especially since you could read from my comment that there was no malice intended at all. I'm Asian and it would be like me getting all upset if someone called me oriental. The native American nation, as all cultures, is far grander, greater, and bigger than the petty, thin-skinned, overly sensitive folks (of any culture).

  • @yamsack1 Regalia is appropriate. Outfit is acceptable as well.

  • Guy in the blue is has a nice Regallia, Look 25s

  • @themw2montager Hi, I am very serious in saying that I think the whole Native American culture, dance, etc. is beautiful and majestic. I do humbly apologize if I may have offended you by calling the clothing "costumes". I meant no disrespect. At the time I wrote the original comment, I couldn't think of (and still can't) think of a proper wording for what they were wearing. "Clothing" isn't right, neither is "Uniforms", so I used "costumes".

  • @yamsack1 costumes : /

    are you serious or trolling?

  • Man, those are beautiful, majestic looking costumes.

  • @skhinvasara I am from Moose Factory! We do speak Cree there, just alot of the kids are still trying to learn or not really attempting to learn Cree. I can speak Cree pretty well. But reading/writing is still kinda challenging for me.

  • @TyroNeophytus

Couldn't agree more. Recently been to Moose Factory. Did not hear anyone speaking in Cree. That's sad.
