WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly cable access television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin. The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

Just think of it as the first day of the year when the days slowly start to get longer again. Pretend that it has something to do with the rebirth of the dead sun and the return of the light and the life. Get some evergreens into your house to remind yourself of the coming spring. Decorate it with fertility symbols, hang a cozy bird's nest on the wall and just wait for those eggs and bunnies to reappear... Jesus Christ, that's an original idea!

Don is obviously very intelligent and handled the conversation quite well. I was thinking he was sounding too reasonable to be a theist. Even in the face of slight badgering.

Saying : "the universe is finite" is a statement of belief. We have a perception of a finite part of the universe (because regarding to our models, for instance, we can't observe beyond the constant of Planck, but we don't know about the universe as "everything that exists". We don't know if there is a time 0. We don't know if there was or not, a singularity beyond witch our universe contracted before expanding in what we call the big bang. We simply don't know.

Saying : "everything that has a begining has a cause" is Right, but the question is "Does the universe has a beginning".

Then if we define "the universe" as "everything that exists" we can question the validity of the concept of "begining" concerning this universe. Because the concept of begining we experience is only the begining of thing within the universe. Does this concept makes sense vis a vis the universe defined as "everything that exists" ? Obviously not.

English is weird when it comes to this. In my language people who aren't religious don't have to worry about how to call the celebration cause the only actual word we have for it translates as Winter fest, no Christ involved. Otherwise English rules.

I was walking to work in San Francisco and I swear i saw Matt Dillahunty arguing with one of those crazy people who hold a giant sign and a megaphone telling people they are going to hell while he was waiting in line for the trolley. I wanted to hug him but I wasn't sure it was him. In retrospect I should have done it anyways.
