In 2007 Vincent Paronnaud adapted Marjane Satrapis graphic memoirs into a French film. Persepolis is Satrapis own story growing up in Revolutionary Iran and later in Europe. Her early childhood was saturated with violence and personal loss, and she had difficultly developing her outspoken identity under the oppression of the new Shah, as well as in Vienna.
In studying the final product of an adaptation, well be comparing a scene from the film in which a family friend returns home after many years of imprisonment to the corresponding pages in the graphic memoir.
