Durga who is the main Mother goddess she is the unborn and absolute. yet she has appeared in many forms and figures as she has taken incarnations many times. One of her forms is Meldi.

All goddesses have thier own mounts, Such as Durga sits on a lion, Saraswati on a swan, Bahuchara on a Rooster, Khodiyar on a Crocodlie.

Meldi loves the goat and by mounting on it she teaches us that there should be non violence. all animals are sacred and shud not be killed. she protects it by mounting on it.

In one tradition there is a story about Jagmaal who was a great devotee of Meldi.

Once Maa came to him in a dream and told him that 'I am coming. I want to be seated on a black goat adorned with jewels.'

Yes This is Parolidham where Meldi Maa resides. She is Also in Kheda and Valaasan. Where Matajis Taava's are done ( ritual of frying Puri ). The devotee fries puri in a big tavo and lovingly takes the puri out with great devotion. Maa doesnt let any of her devotees hands get burnt as she is so passionate and loving towards her Bhagat....Jai MataJi

Thank you very much for answering my question. It's clearer to my now why each of them have different mounts. There were a lot like Bahuchara, Hadkai and the rest. Ir got a bit confusing.

Hey coolpraks,

I've faved some of your videos, thanks so much for posting these clips. I'm really fascinated with Hindi Devotional songs, especially hymns dedicated to the Mother Goddess.

I'm just a bit curious, though. Is Meldi Maa different from Durga Maa? Or is she the same? Why is her mount a goat instead of a lion? Is there a difference between them besides that?
