  • Thanks, they are doing it tomorrow. We really like the surgeon, and he's not trying to retire on tomorrows surgery, in other words pretty reasonable. He is putting a band in the knee so it will work. He is confident with the recovery, and your video was encouraging. He's not as big as your guy, so maybe it will go well. I'll keep you posted, thanks for getting back.

  • @luvblues100 Just checking in to see how Zeke did with his surgery yesterday. Let me know if you have any questions!

  • Thanks for the informative video and encouraging prognosis. Our 9 year old Westie Zeke, had both knees rupture at the same time. we are going to the vet who is having a certified orthopedic surgeon look at him today. It looks like surgery is our only option.

  • @luvblues100 Both knees? Poor boy. Recovery will be tricky for you guys. Do everything the surgeon tells you. Recovery will take a while but will be worth it in the long wrong.

Keep his pain under control. Crying and panting are the 2 big signs. Don't be afraid to ask for more pain meds for him if he needs it. Good luck with the inevitable surgery!

  • I would love to know how Tuna is doing now? I have to do it with my Sable or as we call her now, DISabled (-: I have heard that there is not a great success rate. Is that true?

  • @ryanrdt

Tuna did great. She recovered very quickly from this surgery.

Actually, since this surgery she had her other knee done for the same reason (damn bulldogs).

You would never know she had her knees repaired.

One recommendation is make sure the doctor that is doing the surgery is board certified in surgery. Some general practitioners have an interest but they aren't specialists. It's worth the extra money.

I speak from experience with my last bully.

Good luck with Sable and Keep Wagging!

  • @OshiSeven It's an oldie but goodie. It still applies. I hope your little girl is doing well this evening! Monique

  • I know this is an old video, but thanks, pretty reassuring. My little dog got spayed today and almost all of this applied to her.

  • update on Zeke. He's doing great. Had the bandages taken off Friday, ugly scars. He was very tentative at first, but can walk quite a few steps on his own to do his outdoor business. Today for the first time since the surgery he is chewing on his Kong toy. We are delighted with his progress, but know there's a long way to go. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • @Monique0469 Surgery went great. He had ruptures on both ccl's and pieces of the miniscus were removed. They put nylon sutures to attach the bones. He is a little groggy, but slept better than we expected. Tried to take him out to pee but no luck yet. Going to vet this morning for check up. will start the long rehab. They bandaged him up, unlike Tuna, which he'll wear for a week or so. How's she doing? Thanks for the support, it helps.

  • My cat tore her ligament in her knee too, but we didn't make her have sugery because it was VERY expencive and the vet said that it would heal on it's own, she just would have a slight limp, but it wouldn't hurt her at all.
