@jambro777 WRONG. Venezuela 1)state subsidizes their oil drilling so it is MUCH cheaper for their consumers and b) have FAAAR more oil resevoirs than we do even considering shale.

i still say the USA should be doing what France is doing, and power our country with atomic energy,in a way that all cars will be running on electricity which would be FAR cheaper then petroleum, and leave petroleum for the machinery that builds our nation.

Daleshankins, The idea that profits and taking care of the people that give you those profits dont go hand in hand is false. You probably didn't understand this because you are brainwashed with anti-capitalist sentiment, but without all those subsidies and govt intervention, the cost of oil might be higher, BUT WE WOULDN'T BE NEARLY THE AMOUNT OF TAXES thus overall costs would be less. There is no such thing as a free lunch, SOMEBODY pays for it, whether directly or indirectly.

The only difference between what happened in the Gulf and what's going on in the Marcellus Shale is that the Marcellus Shall is in YOUR BACK YARD. We need local zoning to take a deregulated industrial operation out of our neighborhoods.
If we had been charging the true price of oil (including subsidies, including costs of spills/cleanups, the costs of overseas wars and armed forces, etc.) we would have been forced to find alternatives long ago. The API and other lobbying group's ONLY interest is the profits of their members and shareholders. It is dishonest to claim that API cares about America. Oil companies are international conglomerates with no national allegiance. We kid ourselves if we believe otherwise.

IF WE HAD BEEN ABLE TO DRILL ALL THE AVAILABLE SHALE OIL, THE COST WOULD BE EQUAL TO WHAT VENEZUELA PAYS....7 CENTS PER GALLON! TO FILL A HUMMER COSTS $1.50............BYE
