I can't believe how long it took me to find a decent vid on this subject. You'd think people who work backstage could make better videos. This is the first one I've seen that has high production quality, good video quality, good audio quality, and camera work that lets us see what both hands are doing - not the backs of hands, not just the hand holding the loops, but the actual twisting process. From a professional stagehand & A/V tech, THANK YOU!

Great! It's nice to know that there are still techs out there who don't call the over/under technique"archaic" - yes I've heard that comment serveral times. What is soo archaic about wanting your cables in good condition??

I have a slight difference in doing over/under where you actually never let go of the cable. I find it's a bit faster and less choppy. Let me know if you want to learn how - I'm not about to make video of this any time soon... maybe one day :)

    Happy coiling!

This will also keep your wire from premature wear within the jacket. This is also true for sensitive and costly cable with solid cores like some high end "RCA" cables.

As of December, 2012, there is a new, innovative and inexpensive product that addresses coiling of cords, cables, hoses and rope once and for all. Check out Twistfree (dot) com for full information, including Products, Applications, Instructions, and News & Events blog posts. Twistfree has pages on Facebook and Pinterest as well.

    The video is poorly done.

Why: The motion of switching the left hand around to twist the cable, is often not visible. Its done out of the frame, or done so quickly that all the viewer sees is a blurry hand.

Fix it - Frame it so the left hand motion is centered in the frame, Especially the vertical. Then do it slo-motion a few times, EMPHASIZING the the left hand. Just do the motion slowly so people can see what going on. Talk about the hand rotation as you do it
