Dangerous Beauty is a biographical drama film directed by Marshall Herskovitz.

It is adapted from the non-fiction book "The Honest Courtesan", by Margaret Rosenthal about the life of Veronica Franco, a courtesan in 16th century Venice, who - during the days of Venice's glory - is spurned by her true love because she does not have a proper dowry to appease his family. With no other alternative, she becomes a courtesan, an occupation legally permitted to women of a certain rank. With her looks and wit, she quickly becomes the most sought after courtesan in Italy, but still cannot overcome the societal restrictions that keeps her apart from her true love.

  • Is there anyone else out there who would pass by Rufus Sewell to get to Jeroen Krabbe, the more mature woman's crumpet.

  • the best i think i like to go sexing with my boyfriend

  • @mroseraynor Yes I agree. :)

  • With such a small country, it's no wonder they had arranged marriages with powerful families. Venice had little other than marriage alliances to keep them from trouble.

  • @misskennedyxo I agree with your sentiments.

  • @TheNuharoo yes well it wasnt just that relationship. many others around that time were the same. only a small percentage of marriages had love. wives were for children/heirs and keeping their home in order while mistresses, courtesans, whores, etc were for pleasure

  • @VivaLaVerde I fully agree with your perspective. I cannot imagine who devastated he must have felt and I wonder if in fact what things might have been if her lover had stayed inside. It's a pity that she ended up losing him to another woman, but if she had been a nun, she would have probably been in the same situation, just with so much better of a reputation. Too bad she didn't choose the convent life and spare herself a lifetime of torture. SHe would have been better off.

Great movie...love Rufus Sewell...and his acting here, as usual, is perfect~!

  • The Psalms are the most beautiful poetry that I've ever read.
