@malcolmwesson - like much in our country, the Police Officer "leading" the parade symbolises that we are not a military dictatorship and that "civilians" are in charge of our democracy. Only a symbol. And very easy to sneer. But we should be grateful for what we have compared with so many other countries. Sure, could be better, but it could all be a whole lot worse.

I must say the DM nearest the camera....very smart drill etc. I think the smartest in the British army....no not the said DM the foot guards.

Yeah just imagine back in the 40s when all the bandsmen wore uniforms like that but with GOLD lace!
That would've been quite a sight! Alas budget cuts, sigh...

Hi Drummajor2000 Its Retrofan1 Here I have just watched your video clip of the Massed Bands Pipes & Drums on their way from Wellington Barracks to Perform at Beating Retreat 2011 on Horse Guards Parade This Year for once I know all the tunes which are the Purple Pageant National Emblem & Wellington I don't know as yet what music was played on Horse Guards But if you were there could you let me know thank you
