This was filmed in 110 deg heat at an Indian zoo.. The sloth bear had no food or water, the leopard had only an empty water container.
Six animals, including a fox, a peahen, a jackal, and a leopard, have died in the last few months. Apart from this a couple of bears also died allegedly due to the apathy of the zoo officials.
Most of the cages were either corroded or broken and just fixed together.
To make matters worse for the animals, there is only a lone visiting doctor who examines the animals once a week.
Two other sloth bears have been rescued and now live happily elsewhere. The rescuer stated "It was one of the worst cases of animal suffering I have ever come across. In my view the bears were worse off in the zoo than when they were on the streets being beaten and forced to "dance" by their owners."

  • This is horrible to say, but if they weren't getting regular food and water, were being kept in super hot conditions with no way to cool themselves, they paced neurotically and had little room or were sick, maybe it was better for them to pass away.

  • disgusting

do you have any more info on what has become of these animals? thanks

  • Shit, poor leppard, he got a tiny cage, not even a death tree or something where to rest like he does in the wild and solid concrete under his feet...i say the bear got it easy !

  • First, tigersoup's missing the point, if someone's taking responsibility for this animal, look after it

i'm sorry, do you know about bears? i think it's their natural habitat, but i agree with them needing water. The bears diet is, from what i know not too big, it eats termites, honey when it finds it, maybe leaves or plant material, carrion? if it finds it. I dont think the space would be a problem compared to what they do at bile markets. It's good to know people care, but i think he's ok.

  • guys its a zoo, what else a sloth bear can do? it does teh same in thing the wild
