Iron rich foods are a key tool to fighting iron deficiency. Foods most abundant in iron include beef liver (and the liver from other animals), but more common foods include clam and red meats. Legumes tend to be high in iron as do iron rich grains such as whole wheat or amaranth, teff, and quinoa.
However, a key problem with plant-based sources of iron is that they include iron inhibitors and your body is less able to absorb the nutrients from them. You can "unlock" the iron in these foods with kitchen preparation and food combining techniques that help you absorb more of these plant-based sources of iron.
