  • @usernametaken443 I'm rather surprised at this comment as I always thought Au Pairs arrangements were particularly impressive; listen again to the way Paul Foad's guitar is used percussively to add texture and counter-rhythm to Pete Hammond's clever drumming. On 'Sense and Sensuality' the band really break free from the post-punk straitjacket and incorporate many jazz elements into their sound. Also, I can't believe you could decribe Lesley Woods' rich vocals as "colourless".

  • Without any prefabricated intent, I find the Au Pairs quite colorless. However meaningful the lyrics may be, from a musical standpoint I say people should better stick to Pop Group, Raincoats or Slits. Those bands were more creative.

  • Before there was a voice, there was Au Pairs! They walked us through all of the angst of female situations. The vocals find a way to cut through the bullshit currently being conveyed! They 'rock" in a way that defies convention. They take over all of a room. They command a kind of unique "sex". No other group possessed another sense of commonality! It was there's alone to harbour such a unique essence of sheer brilliance that no other entity possessed!
