I give the basic Aldol Condensation mechanism using benzaldehyde and acetophenone as the examples, and the basic Aldehyde + ketone format. Good for a quick review!

Remember Aldol condensations almost always give more than one product unless there is some kind of hindrance.

  • Lovely - good for revision or first time :-)

  • this reaction is clasien schimdt ......rather to say aldol

  • 6:11 aren't hydroxides poor leaving groups?...wouldn't the hydroxide need to be taken off with water...?

but helpful video thank you!!! :)

  • Your tautomerization step around 6:00 isn't really necessary. The electrons from the broken C-H bond could just form the double bond between carbons 2 and 3 immediately after carbon 2 was deprotonated.

  • thank you!!!!!

  • Hey, this helped me answer a question on my O Chem lab report, thanks! ^.^

  • Thnx d00bleA that acetophenone stuff is always confusing me..but i can work out others except this one :)
